The wrist allows us to lift, grip and twist objects, and lets us bend, tilt and stretch our hands. It’s a complex joint, and when sprained or strained or impaired through injury, trauma,  arthritis or repetitive strain injury (RSI), performing everyday activities can be painful and challenging to carry out.

Some of the more common wrist complaints and injuries we look after include:

Scaphoid
fracture

Common in sports injury and younger people resulting in wrist pain or swelling is around the base of the thumb and into the wrist.

Broken wrist -
Distal Radial Fractures

Known often as Colles’ Fracture or Smith’s Fracture results in pain, bruising, swelling, dysfunction and deformity in your wrist.

Greenstick or
Paediatric Buckle Fracture

Mild fractures show as stress, sprains, buckles or bruises in the arm’s long bone. Severe fractures can result in deformity, pain and swelling.

Wrist Arthritis Distal -
Radtioulnar Joint arthritis

Causes significant pain, swelling, stiffness, functional issues in the wrist and arm.

Scapholunate
ligament Injury

Can cause swelling at the back of the wrist, reduced grip strength and motion. Pain is felt when the wrist is bent back.

Carpal
Tunnel Syndrome

Pins and needles sensation, pain, numbness or weakness in the thumb, fingers, hands, wrist or arm. Can lead to nerve damage.
