Sprained or Fractured Fingers

Hand

Symptoms

We often hear finger dislocations and knocks being referred to as sprained fingers. The finger can be bent backwards or sideways and may not be able to go back into place.

If your finger is sprained or fractured, you will experience severe pain when you try and move or use it.

You might have trouble bending or straightening or even touching it, due to the pain. You might even have swelling around the join in the affected finger.

How it occurs

Finger dislocations and sprained fingers are common injuries in ball sports where a player or a ball disrupts the ligaments or the tendons in the finger joints.

Treatment

Our therapists are experienced in assessing and treating sprained or fractured fingers.  We can read your scans and then work on reducing the swelling and protecting the fracture with a splint or orthosis.  We will then show you range of motion and strengthening exercises to restore your function.
